OMENAR

Omenar

Salorras Paragon: Omenar · Base path: Apostle (Cleric) + Legatee — oracle-essencer of the Ominous Three (the Threefold Testament), seated in Kyrdis. A 10-level 3.5e prestige class for the rare priests who carry the legatee bloodline, marrying divine spellcasting with essence-combustion — and unleashing both as a single wave of power.

History tells that the god Adorys, in a moment of mercy toward his faithful and with the consent of the rest of the Triptych — Aalokye and Othrax — gifted the people of Asmeda the anointing of the legatees. For ages the legatees led great companies of people, and over the years they managed to establish humanity across all of western Asmeda. With the passing of the Eras this leading power of the legatees frayed in many civilizations — but not in Kyrdis…

The omenars are priests who carry the anointing of the legatees in their blood. This is perhaps the greatest gift a priest of the Ominous Three can receive, for one of the most important facets of the doctrine concerns the ascent and perfection of the humanoid peoples. In a state ruled by a theocracy through the legatees, the omenars could be anything but a marginal role.

These blessed priests receive the baptism of the omenar from the Patriarchate of the city-state of Kyrdis, and represent the harshest of the three faces of the Threefold Testament — that of Omen. They act as the hand of justice of the theocratic regime, imposing order and suppressing outbreaks of uncontrolled mystic magic wherever and whenever these appear within the borders of the city-state.

Omenars are masters of war. They wield the magic of their gods and the superhuman powers of the legatees alike, and so can marry the magic of spells with the power of essences. The uniqueness of this combination lets them enrich their stored essences with priestly spells and then channel that magic outward in the form of a wave.

When they act in groups, they almost always split their role in two — those who go to the front line after empowering themselves with essences, and those who support the first with priestly magic. Even when an omenar is alone, they remain exceptionally combat-capable, able to fall back on the many options of their abilities.

Most omenars are found within the borders of Kyrdis, performing the duties laid on them by the Threefold Testament. Several hold leading roles in the city-state’s social and political affairs, while others wander in groups, keeping the order and law that the god Adorys demands. It is not unlikely, of course, for some omenars to be found beyond Kyrdis, on a holy mission assigned by the Patriarchate.

Hit Die: d8.

Class Skills

The omenar’s class skills (and the key ability for each) are Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Heal (Wis), Knowledge (arcana) (Int), Knowledge (history) (Int), Knowledge (religion) (Int), Knowledge (the planes) (Int), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int).

Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Class Features

All of the following are features of the omenar prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency. An omenar is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with all armor, but not with shields.

Spells and Essences per Day. At 1st level, and at every level through 9th, an omenar advances both halves of their power at once: they gain new divine spells per day and new essences as though they had gained a level in both the divine spellcasting class and the essencer (legatee) class they belonged to before — but none of those classes’ other abilities (such as extra uses of body restoration, or improved turn/rebuke undead). If the character had more than one divine spellcasting or essencer class before entering, they declare which class of each kind they advance. The essences an omenar knows and burns are catalogued in the essence catalogue.

Divine Essence (Su). As an elite priest of the hardline Omen face of the Threefold Testament, the omenar forms such contact with the Ominous Three that they can enrich the quintessence of their essences with the powers of their gods and then loose it as a wave of magic, drawing on their turn undead.

The three cores answer to the three faces: Physical essences, as a sign of bodily soundness, are enriched with the blessing of the goddess Aalokye; Sensorial essences draw power from the eye of the law and the fervent dominion of the god Adorys; and Vital essences, woven with the fundamental but unknown powers of human nature, draw the spells of the god Othrax.

In practice, as a standard action, the omenar burns one of their stored essences together with one use of turn undead, and a commanding wave of magic erupts in a 60-foot radius centered on them, affecting everyone within it. The effect of the wave depends on the level and core of the essence burned, per the Divine Essences table below. The spell descriptions apply normally, except that instead of the listed range and target, all targets in the 60-foot-radius spread are affected. The omenar may decide whether the wave affects their enemies, their allies, or both. The caster level of these spells equals the omenar’s caster level, and their save DC equals 10 + the spell level + the omenar’s Charisma modifier + any other feature that enhances the spell’s school of magic (such as Spell Focus).

Enlarged Thalamus (Ex). At 5th level, the omenar’s storage thalamus widens, granting room for 1 additional essence. At 10th level this space increases by a further +1. If the omenar already has enlarged thalamus from another class, the extra space stacks.

Catalytic Combustion (Ex). At 6th level, the omenar chooses one of the three essential cores. They may then increase all of that core’s essence bonuses by one and a half times (rounded down), while halving their duration. For example, a 6th-level omenar with Strength 12 who has chosen catalytic combustion for the Physical core, burning four empowered “muscles” essences with catalytic combustion, raises their Strength by +6 for the next 1 hour instead of +4 for the next 2 hours.

The player must declare the use of catalytic combustion before the burning begins. It does not affect an essence’s starting time unless the essence’s description says otherwise. Catalytic combustion cannot be combined with exponential combustion (see the legatee class), since both work on the same principle. If the omenar already has catalytic combustion from another class, it advances as described for that feature in the legatee entry.

Bonus Feat. At 8th level, the omenar gains a bonus feat, which must be chosen from the essential feats (the essencer feats defined with the legatee). The omenar must meet all the feat’s prerequisites. This bonus feat is in addition to the feats a character gains by level.

Ex-Omenars

An omenar who crudely violates the rules the doctrine of their religion demands — or who generally behaves or acts diametrically against the alignment of their god — loses all their divine spells and the divine essence feature. From then on they cannot advance further in the omenar prestige class until they atone to their god (as the atonement spell). The essence-combustion they hold by their own legatee bloodline remains, but without the gods’ blessing it can no longer be loosed as the divine essence wave.
